Trauma Training: ARDS: Pathophysiology & Initial Management

Key Objectives:

• 1. Define ARDS and explain why it's a syndrome, not a diagnosis
  2. Classify ARDS severity by oxygenation physiology and connect that classification to expected lung mechanics
  3. Select and justify initial airway management and ventilation strategy (NIV vs. invasive) for a patient with ARDS-pattern hypoxemia
  4. Explain why drowning produces an ARDS-like picture and how management differs (or doesn't) from other ARDS etiologies
